The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northeastern Bergen County in northeastern New Jersey...
  Rockland County in southeastern New York...

* Until 1115 AM EDT.

* At 821 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
  thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
  0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1
  to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches
  are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or
  expected to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
           highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
           drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Ridgewood, Tappan, Pearl River, Oradell, Norwood, Orangeburg,
  Dumont, Glen Rock, Westwood, Hillsdale, River Vale, Washington
  Township, Park Ridge, Cresskill, Closter, Chestnut Ridge, Montvale,

  Northern Essex County in northeastern New Jersey...
  Hudson County in northeastern New Jersey...
  Eastern Passaic County in northeastern New Jersey...
  New York (Manhattan) County in southeastern New York...

* WHEN...Until 945 AM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
  Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Ponding of
  water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 759 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. This  will
    cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 1 and 2 inches of
    rain have fallen.
  - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over
    the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Paterson, Passaic, Wayne, Bloomfield, Hackensack, Bergenfield,
    Paramus, Ridgewood, Lyndhurst, Rutherford, Secaucus, Ridgefield,
    Caldwell, Harlem, Fort Lee, Englewood, Hawthorne, Oradell,

MORNING FOR SOUTH CENTRAL BERGEN, ESSEX, HUDSON AND EASTERN PASSAIC
COUNTIES...

At 742 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that
heavy rain was falling across the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5
inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2
inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches
are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Heavy rain producing flash
         flooding.

SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban
         areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Paterson, Passaic, Wayne, Bloomfield, Orange, Paramus, Lyndhurst,
  Rutherford, Caldwell, Kearny, Hawthorne, Fairfield, Clifton, East
  Orange, West Orange, Montclair, Belleville, Fair Lawn, Garfield and
  Livingston.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast New Jersey, including the following
  areas, Eastern Bergen, Eastern Essex, Eastern Passaic, Eastern
  Union, Hudson, Western Bergen, Western Essex, Western Passaic and
  Western Union and southeast New York, including the following
  areas, Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), New York (Manhattan), Northern
  Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), Southern Queens and Southern
  Westchester.

* WHEN...Until noon EDT today.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding in poor drainage
  areas, rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone
  locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Showers with heavy downpours and a few thunderstorms early Sunday
    morning into midday Sunday may lead to flooding. Average rainfall
    amounts are forecast to range from 1 to 2 inches. Locally higher
    amounts up to around 3 inches possible. Peak hourly rates could
    reach 1.5 to 2 inches.
