Today a high pressure ridge out ahead of low pressure hitting the southwest will again allow for more sunshine, through this ridge weakens and we expect increasing clouds, and some rain/ snow (snow levels 9,000+ feet) tonight across southwest Colorado, increasing clouds for Aspen, and isolated showers toward Wednesday morning in Aspen. Some flakes will initially fall in town and at the base, but once the atmosphere moistens up it will be all rain in town and at the base on Wednesday, since this first band of moisture was pulled from the subtropics. Wednesday night expect colder air moving in from a stronger and cold system that is today (Tuesday) dropping south through California.

Wednesday through Thursday (20-21 Nov) - A low pressure system that was modified warmer by the relatively warm Pacific waters off of central Baja (subtropical) will clip Aspen on Wednesday, with some high snow levels near and above 9,000 feet, moderate snow above those elevations (4-7" of snow across Aspen-Snowmass at 9,000+ feet through Wednesday night), plus some rain at the base. Southwest Colorado will see 1 to 1.5 feet of snow above 9,000 feet tonight and Wednesday. Later Wednesday through Thursday a colder second storm moves in, kicking the subtropical mess eastward, and carrying in colder air + lower snow levels, less moisture, and snow to 7,000 feet Wednesday night through Thursday evening/ overnight across western Colorado. This second system stalls out and becomes more of a closed off low, meandering around a bit. This could end up being a big snow event for the front range cities of Denver through Pueblo ("4-corners low" potential) as well. Southwest Colorado looks favored with this storm, with up to 2 feet of storm total snowfall for Wolf Creek. I am working up a video for this event and the future through November, check it out in our weather stories linked from our home page.

Friday through Sunday (Nov 22-24) expect clearing skies to mostly sunny, cold with new snow on the ground, and under a high pressure ridge.

Next Monday and Tuesday (Nov 25-26) leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend (Thursday Nov 28th - Sunday Dec 1st), expect another storm to roll through, looking strong and significant again, possibly a good foot of accumulation on the mountains around Aspen and slightly less in town after all is said and done on Tuesday, setting up Thanksgiving nicely. Meteorologist/ Chris Manly

LONGER RANGE: Pre-Thanksgiving Holiday (as detailed above) is looking snowy all across the Pacific Northwest, Idaho (north and south) northern Utah, Wyoming and Montana, through Colorado. Some systems will hit Tahoe/ Mammoth also, and south to Taos, New Mexico. Aspen is looking good for Thanksgiving weekend (28th Nov - 1st Dec), with some great accumulations and coverage by then, plus more falling while you are there.
Winter is looking more snowy and colder than average across western Colorado and Aspen, as we have been saying since this summer. More detail to come... Meteorologist/ Chris Manly
